I'm notorious for being late. For years, I always chocked it up to some sort of excuse — school started too early, the traffic on my morning commute was too unpredictable, even the universe had methodically conspired to create some unplanned obstacle that I had to resolve each and every day when I was nearly out the door. I've probably invested more energy into dismissing my lateness than actually just solving it with a sound alarm clock and a little discipline. Nonetheless, I've recently come to terms with the fact that my being late is, indeed, a very real character flaw that's well-known by most everyone in my life — by this point, even my friends know that when I say I'm "almost there," it's likely I've yet to even leave my house (shout-out to people who put up with you in spite of your chaos!).

As I've gotten older and gained a better understanding of the importance of punctuality, I've similarly tried to remedy my lateness with tools to help me stay on track each morning — even if I'm in a tight time crunch. There's the usual suspects: a sickeningly loud alarm clock, a sound machine, my cat eagerly crawling across my face at 6 a.m. sharp, and about nine other alarms on my phone that are set to go off just minutes apart from one another — simply for when the preceding tools fail to effectively wake me up (we're a work in progress, OK?). However, my latest morning-routine essential might just be my favorite to date, and it comes in the form of a BlendJet Portable Blender ($50, originally $100) that — like most things in my life — I was inspired to buy with the influence of the internet.

While it doesn't necessarily help in making me wake up on time, it has helped to simplify my morning routine significantly — allowing me to easily make my morning smoothies on the go (even in the car!), all with the simple push of a button and in under 20 seconds. Even in the midst of my lateness, I'm now still able to quickly snag a nutritional breakfast and be on my merry way — no tedious preparation, bulky kitchenware, or hefty price tag necessary.

I've already gabbed (rather exhaustively) about this kitchenware appliance to just about everyone in my life, and since I'm not in the business of gatekeeping, I'm gladly sharing it here, too. Read on for my honest review of this portable blender to see how it's not only helped to shed 15 minutes off my morning routine, but even managed to cater to the needs of a woman who never fails to be running frantically out the door.

More than anything, I just appreciate the convenience of this appliance. I love having a homemade smoothie or frappe for breakfast but have long been deterred by all the work that came along with making one each morning — pulling out the clunky machinery, getting all of my ingredients in order, making the darn thing, and then still allotting enough time afterward to clean everything up before rushing to work. It's really not that dramatic of a chore (I know), but when you're someone who is always short on time, it often eats up those extra minutes that you just can't spare.

With this BlendJet Portable Blender, I'm able to throw my smoothie-making treats into the tool, blend it all together in my car, and then enjoy it at my leisure throughout the morning — no assembly or frantic cleanup required. Beyond work, it's handy to take to appointments, work events, traveling, and even the gym (on the rare occasion I actually make it out to the gym, of course). For how much use it's gotten in my day-to-day life, it's already proven to be a worthwhile investment — and significantly more affordable than some of the other luxe portable blenders out there (bonus!). And if time is money, I'm saving a lot of it each morning by simply not having to deal with the hassle of putting a nutritional breakfast together.

My only complaint with this appliance (albeit a minor one) is the cleaning process. BlendJet's website would have you believe that you can easily wash out the blender with a simple drop of soap and a bit of water — courtesy of its self-cleaning capabilities — and then move on to using it immediately after. I've discovered that after each use, the blender carries a certain odor toward the bottom of the tool that requires me to do a bit more heavy scrubbing to fully rid the product of any scent. Family members, friends, and even reviewers have also reported this to be the case for them, too. If I'm being honest, I don't mind this and haven't found it to be a detail that would deter me from using the blender or even purchasing it again. I'm naturally a bit of a clean freak, so the more thoroughly scrubbed, the better, in my opinion! However, if you're looking for something that requires less upkeep after use, it's certainly a detail to be aware of.

Whether you're someone who is notorious for being late (hi!), are always on the go, or just appreciate convenience and would like to cut back on your daily drink spending (looking at you, my fellow beverage girlies!), this portable blender from BlendJet is seriously a cure-all. Even if smoothies aren't your thing, the blender is also capable of making everything from frappes to baby food — something any parent will appreciate being able to seamlessly whip up while on the go. Best of all, it's durable yet lightweight, meaning that it can easily fit into your purse, briefcase, school backpack, or even a carry-on bag so that you can enjoy your drink pre-TSA check and then quickly tuck it away when you're done. I've already convinced my gym-loving dad and cousin to invest in one for their post-workout snacks, and my mom loves using hers on her morning commute to work. This blender is truly an essential for anyone and such a worthwhile investment!

The BlendJet Portable Blender is available to shop at BlendJet ($50, originally $100), Walmart ($52), and Bed Bath & Beyond ($45, originally $50).
